In most cases no! To keep our services convenient and affordable, our veterinary team performs the required pre-surgical exam the morning of the scheduled surgery. This complete exam is already included in our flat-rate pricing.

If your pet is older than 10 years old, we do require pre-surgical bloodwork ($50-$100) to be performed prior to scheduling surgery. Bloodwork can be drawn Tuesday-Thursday from 2-4 pm. You do not need an appointment. You can also submit lab work from your regular veterinarian that was performed less than 6 months ago.

We offer essential preventative care that can be added to any scheduled surgical procedure. This includes the Rabies vaccine (required without proof of current vaccination), Distemper-Parvo for dogs, FVRCP for cats, and the Rabbit Hemorrhagic Virus 2 vaccine. We also perform these services on Fridays from 10 am - 2 pm. You do not need an appointment.

At our Albuquerque clinic, we offer comfortable recovery alternatives available for purchase at check-in, such as inflatable recovery collars and post-surgical onesies/recovery suits.

Yes, as part of our mission to reduce pet overpopulation in New Mexico, all pets must be spayed or neutered to receive other procedures at our clinic. If your pet is not yet altered, our veterinary surgeons can safely perform the spay or neuter procedure on the exact same day as their anesthetic dental cleaning, mass removal, or other procedure.

Because we are a specialized, high-volume surgical clinic focusing on spay, neuter, dental care, and specific soft-tissue surgeries, we do not offer general illness or urgent care veterinary services. If your pet is currently sick, we recommend visiting a full-service Albuquerque animal hospital for treatment before scheduling their elective surgery with us.

If you think your pet is having a minor surgical complication such as a small open area, redness, or oozing at the incision site, make sure they are wearing a cone/surgical suit. Please send us an email with a picture of your pet's incision and a description of the problem to info@abqspayneuter.com. We will get back to you within 24 hours.

If you think your pet is having a major surgical complication such as tissue coming out of the incision, extreme pain, pale gums, or other things that concern you; please bring your pet in to our facility right away during normal business hours. If it is after hours, please seek emergency veterinary care.
